CoffeeSpoons Theatre Project

Stirring up an unexpected theatre experience.

CoffeeSpoons Theatre Project is a collective of passionate individuals who seek to put on free theatre that is accessible and inviting to anyone and everyone.

CoffeeSpoons Theatre Project is a collective of passionate individuals who seek to put on free theatre that is accessible and inviting to anyone and everyone. The brainchild and obsession of Shanti Gonzales, raised in Dedham MA and theatre student at McGill University in Montréal, the Project returns for its second summer.

There are those who see theatre as stale words, a stiff-backed chair, and a stuffy windowless room--we here at CoffeeSpoons hope to change that. We strive to breathe youthful and inspired life into the theatre by bringing comedic one-acts into a casual café setting. With CoffeeSpoons, "a night at the theatre" involves food, friends, drinks, and laughter.

Our first production, selections from David Ives's All in the Timing, premièred in August 2013 at Paradise Café in Dedham. We were just a bunch of kids who loved the theatre enough to try and make something out of nothing. We were amazed to find our exhaustion and exhilaration rewarded by packed houses both nights.

This year, CoffeeSpoons is again stirring up something exciting. We are back at Paradise Café August 20-23, 2014 with three of Shel Silverstein's comedic one-acts from the collection An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein.

CoffeeSpoons is bigger and bolder than ever this summer. Last year, we scraped by on Shanti's barista paycheck, with our costs eventually offset by generous audience donations.

This year, thanks to the success of our Indiegogo fundraiser this spring, we are absolutely abuzz with growth! With an open rehearsal, a showcase performance, and 4 performances in two different venues, CoffeeSpoons is again stirring up something exciting for the summer.
